What a wild ride—again!
From January 9–14, 2025, we jumped headfirst into the Snakebite 5-Day Film Challenge for the second year in a row, and let’s just say… it didn’t disappoint.
This year, we came in with a bit more experience under our belt. After participating last year, we had a much better idea of what to expect: fast-paced planning, late nights, tough decisions, and a whole lot of creative chaos. That said, the pressure is still real—writing, shooting, and editing an entire short film in just five days is no small feat.
Each team is given four required elements to include in their film:
Prop: A paper crown
Line of Dialogue: “The key was never meant to be found.”
Character: A photographer
Genre/Theme: One genre from Column A + one theme from Column B (we went with Thriller/Horror this time)
This was our first time diving into the thriller/horror genre, and honestly? It was a blast. We’re so used to telling stories in a certain style that getting to stretch into something darker and more intense really pushed us creatively.
But like any good horror story—there was a twist.
Shane, our lead creator, was hit hard with a nasty cold during the challenge. Despite being sick the entire week, he still managed to write, shoot, edit, and submit our film in time. We’re not entirely sure how he pulled it off (likely a combination of grit, green tea, and sheer willpower), but we’re incredibly proud of the final product.
Sure, there are a few things we wish we could’ve fine-tuned. But that’s part of the fun—and the challenge—of the Snakebite 5-Day Film Fest. You have to make fast choices, work with what you have, and trust your instincts. It’s raw, it’s intense, and it makes you grow as a filmmaker.
We were blown away by the creativity from all the other teams. Each film brought something unique to the table, and it’s so cool to see how different people interpret the same required elements in completely different ways.
We’re grateful to be part of such a passionate creative community and already have ideas brewing for next year.
